A ride, also gravel, on the Trieste Karst between the Gulf of Trieste and the Slovenian border, at the sites of the Great War.
Route
The route develops around Mount Ermada, the scene of the battles of the Great War, on dirt roads. You pedal through the karst landscape, characterized by a wide variety of flora and fauna, and encounter along the way Duino Castle, Sistiana, the Fisherman's Village and Malchina.
Food & wine
The Trieste Karst is populated with osmize, typical inns where you can taste local food and wine directly from their producers. Be charmed by their spartan appearance, taste Karst prosciutto, pickles and typical cheeses accompanied by Marasca honey, a PAT product widespread in the area, and sip a glass of Terrano or Malvasia.RECOMMENDED DISH: Crostino with Liptauer (sheep's milk cheese spread with spicy paprika)
The stretch to the Slovenian border is challenging but one is rewarded by the view of the Gulf of Trieste.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.
On the way back it is worth stopping at the panoramic terrace adjacent to the Sisitana Infopoint. a here you can overlook the entire Gulf of Trieste.
