Itinerary
The itinerary is a loop crossing the vineyard hills, the plain north of Udine, San Daniele del Friuli, and the woods of the Val d'Arzino. It winds into the inter-municipal park of the Carnic hills surrounded by the Carnic Alps. You return toward the plain after crossing numerous villages including Poffabro (One of the most beautiful villages in Italy) and Maniago. The final stage will be a pleasant discovery of the Risorgive landscape rich in Venetian villas and fortresses such as Palmanova and Gradisca d'Isonzo.
Food&Wine
A journey through the mountain gastronomic specialties of Carnia, the foothill valleys of Pordenone, and the Friulian plain. It starts with the renowned raw ham of San Daniele followed by Cjarsons and Frico, interspersed with snacks based on Pitina (a smoked meatball typical of the Tramonti area) and Asìno cheese accompanied by wines from Collio, Colli Orientali, Isonzo, and Friuli-Grave. RECOMMENDED DISH: Frico (a dish made of cheese and potatoes).

Be careful on the Madrisio bridge (Tagliamento river) south of San Vito al Tagliamento and on the San Gottardo bridge (Torre river) near Udine.
The roads have very little traffic. Make sure you have what you need to deal with any technical problems.
Intermodal points (Bike+Train and Bike+Bus) are available in stages 1, 3, and 4.
Starting from Gorizia toward San Floriano del Collio, Cormons, Premariacco, and Remanzacco. At the eastern outskirts of Udine, proceed north and pass through Reana del Rojale, the village of Colloredo di Monte Albano, San Daniele del Friuli, and Forgaria nel Friuli. From here, enter the Val d'Arzino and cross San Francesco di Vito d'Asio, Pozzis di Verzegnis, arriving at Villa Santina. Return south through Socchieve, Tramonti di Sopra, Poffabro, Maniago, Caneva, and Sacile. Cycle north of Pordenone towards Cordenons and then descend into the Friulian plain at Casarsa della Delizia, San Vito al Tagliamento, Ariis di Rivignano, Gonars, Palmanova, Medea, and Gradisca d'Isonzo. A short stretch runs through Slovenian territory before reaching Gorizia.

By train, Gorizia railway station (Venice - Udine - Trieste line) can be reached in about 2 hours from Venice.
