A bicycle route through the eastern hills, which provide the ideal setting for a prestigious wine trail, an experience between nature and history not to be missed.
Itinerary
This loop starts from the UNESCO city of Cividale del Friuli, skirts the Romagno Forest, the small Judrio River valley between Prepotto and Dolegna del Collio, and the border with Slovenia. The entire area is dedicated to wine production and is dotted with wineries and farms interspersed with small churches and villages. For the more curious, it is worth the detour to the village of Albana, where the castle tower peeps out among wineries and old houses.
Food & wine
Among sausages for slicing, Friulian salami is the prince product, considered since ancient times the best way to preserve pork meat. We suggest pairing it with Schioppettino di Prepotto, with a berry crackling in the mouth, like the name from which this fine red wine is derived. RECOMMENDED DISH: Mixed platter of cured meats and cheeses, or tagliatelle with game sauce.
Remember to check the opening hours of the wineries.
