Venzone has been proclaimed a national monument since 1965 as the only 14th-century fortified village in the region and later joined the list of the Borghi più belli d’Italia (Most Beautiful Villages of Italy). We recommend a visit to the treasures in the cathedral and the nearby San Michele cemetery chapel that houses the mummies.
From Gemona del Friuli to Venzone the route is almost all on the Alpe Adria cycle track. At Venzone we cross the Tagliamento river and descend towards Bordano, where many murals are painted on its buildings portraying butterflies, which are particularly widespread on Mount S. Simeone. In the summer season, you can visit the butterfly house. We cross the Tagliamento river at Braulins and return to Gemona del Friuli. The tour is short to allow time to visit the historic centre and the main points of interest of Gemona and Venzone.
Gemona del Friuli is the crossing point of 3 cycle routes. Want to change route? You will find the information in DIRECTIONS TO FOLLOW.
