Mulino di Basaldella

The mill known as the Mulino di Basaldella, or Mulino del Ronco, active from 1300 until 1982, is now owned by the municipality of Campoformido. Inside, visitors are welcomed by a guide, who shows how the wheels, driven by the water of the canal of Udine, make the millstones move, which in the past produced different types of flour and served numerous other activities, such as wool carding and iron beating for sharpening tools. The mill serves as a Visitor Centre of the Cormôr Park of Campoformido: in fact, inside, there is information about the Cormôr creek and the stable meadows typical of the high plains, a wealth of biodiversity rich in rare and protected botanical species. The third floor of the structure is finally dedicated to pollinating insects as part of the project "Campoformido-Comune amico delle api" (Campoformido-municipality friends of bees, thanks to which you can visit an educational apiary at the Villa Primavera roccolo (bird blind) inside the Park.

Visits are organised at the Mill for groups and educational workshops for schools and families, also combined with activities dedicated to the stable meadows and excursions within the Cormôr Park.

Why is it ideal for children and their families?

The visitor centre is hands-on and interactive: children, together with the local guide, can reproduce the miller's ancient gestures and get excited by operating the mill. There is an environmental education centre with multimedia points where they can have fun with digital games and learn more about stable meadows and the world of bees.
