This hike travels along an ancient communication route between the Cellina and upper Tagliamento valleys, following the deep incision of the Cimoliana Valley, and then leads, in a dolomitic setting, to the high pass of Forcella Urtisiel, from which it reaches and follows out into the Giaf Valley.
The hiking trail begins in the upper Cimoliana valley (Pian Meluzzo, near the Pordenone Refuge), which can be reached from Cimolais by following the Val Cimoliana road (13 km, paved and dirt road). From here it continues following the wide valley floor until it reaches a log shelter(Caseruta dei Pecoli), from which originates the path that climbs the forest until it comes out at the pasture of Casera Val Binon (shelter, guarded in summer). The route now continues with an uphill crossing through the mountain pine scrub, then exits at the meadowy depression that leads to the airy Forcella Urtisiel, which allows a view from the head of Val Cimoliana to the entire Fornese Dolomite area and beyond. Beyond the fork, the trail descends along the scree slopes below the walls of the Pecoli Peaks to the Giaf Refuge, located at the edge of the forest. Once the Refuge is reached, follow the trail (or the forest road) that descends the valley of the same name, to the Ponte Giaf locality, the end point of the itinerary, from which it is possible to follow the road leading to the village of Forni di Sopra.
