An excursion that encompasses some precious pearls of the Carnic territory. The start is just beyond the village of Rivalpo, from the carriage road that alternates between manicured meadows and silent woods. Climbing the asphalt road, which is closed to vehicular traffic, you quickly gain height, immersing yourself in the views that sweep over the entire But valley. On reaching the meadowy esplanade of the Malga Valmedan hut, the rocky dome of Monte Sernio shows itself in all its mellowness to the east. From the alpine pasture begins the most scenic part of the ascent, with a route that climbs the steep southern slopes of the Tersadia along a daring, but never difficult, wartime mule track. Numerous artefacts dating back to the Great War are also encountered on the next part of the ascent, when, having gone around the northern slope, the path enters the mugho pines of the terminal ridge. The summit cross marks the arrival at the 1960m summit, which is incredibly panoramic in all directions.

    Author’s recommendation

Avoid the climb in the middle hours of summer days, the upper part is entirely exposed to the sun and there are no water sources on the route.

    Directions

By State Road 52Bis you reach the built-up area of Cedarchis, which you pass, finding, a little further on the right, the signs for the hamlets of Valle - Rivalpo.

Go up Provincial Road 40 for a few kilometers to reach the village of Rosa dei Venti from which, on the left, the road to Rivalpo starts.

Once in the village (signs) proceed to the right at the narrow crossroads, shortly reaching the church of S. Martino, which must be bypassed by continuing on the same road. After passing a small sports field and the next group of barns, you will soon reach the no-transit zone where it is possible to park in the small clearings.
