Medium-difficulty loop trail along CAI paths that follow the famous Passeggiata delle Malghe until you reach Costa Grande and the various casere. Splendid views of the Friulian plain that varies with the seasons: an extraordinary natural botanical garden where you can appreciate the smells and scents of the forest.

From the Piancavallo tourist office, turn left and drive along Via Collalto towards Barcis to the snow removal vehicle depot. On the right, continue along the service road that runs alongside the snow vehicle depot.

After about a hundred meters take a left and follow the red-white markings of the Policreti Trail (CAI 990a), then stay on the trail until the Casera Collalt, named after the mountain of the same name and located on the Piancavallo plateau. A short detour to the right of the trail is suggested before the casera to enjoy a splendid viewpoint with a wide panorama of the Friulian plain.

Once back on the trail and past the casera, cross the asphalt Castaldia-Collalto road. Follow the CAI markings of the Passeggiata delle Malghe. At the junction with the forest road, turn right and climb briefly until you reach a wide space; on the left, locate the CAI Sentiero Fontanuzze trail marker. Follow the trail until you reach the trail marker table for CAI 985. Here the Fontanuzze-CAI 985 junction begins. The trail, slightly downhill and with a wide view of the plain, reaches CAI 985. Follow the CAI 985 trail, downhill, to the junction for CAI 917 ex Costa Grande. Follow the siding to CAI 917.

The two junction traverses, Fontanuzze-985 and 985-917 Costa Grande, are particularly pleasant both for the splendid views and for the pleasantly defatic slope. In changing seasons they present themselves as an extraordinary natural botanical garden.

Turn left on 917 and follow the ascent to Piancavallo to the forest road. Continue to the left and pass the Casera del Medico (1120 m). After about 100 meters at the fork, turn right and continue in the direction indicated by CAI 985 signs.

With a short ascent you reach one of the most peculiar places of Piancavallo: the wide glaciokarst valley. Cross the basin to the forest road crossed earlier. Turn left and continue as far as Casera Caseratte. Follow the signpost Malghe-Piancavallo Passeggiata and continue along the trail . Cross the junction with the forest road and follow the red-and-white signs. The trail ends at Via Collalto. Follow the paved road back to the starting point.
