We have chosen to visit the Lis Fadis winery, in Spessa di Cividale, in the DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli area. I had heard about this enchanted place from friends who run a restaurant who had found it and had fallen in love with it. Lis Fadis, which translated from Friulian means “The Fairies”, is a magical place that presents visitors with a dream scenario, a mix of history and legend. It is a delightful estate, the result of the dream of a couple, now retired, who chose to devote themselves to a romantic project with love and passion.
Born from the reconstruction of an existing small house that was marked on a map of the late eighteenth century, the property was purchased in 2005 and the renovations were completed in 2008. The stones, the floors, the wooden beams, all the elements that go to make up this casket of emotions and charm are antique and each of them tells a piece of history.
The owners welcome us with pleasure and make us feel like friends who have come to visit them. He is an old antiques dealer, a sunny figure who enchants us with his passionate stories and guides us through an enchanted world on a journey through the world of wines from the Friuli region.
Most of the products of the vineyard are organic, wines of the highest quality, able to excite the palate. Each wine bears the name of an elf, and aims to be a tribute to the mythological figures that inhabit the woods of Friuli and in particular of Carnia, which is where the estate’s owner comes from.
The Lis Fadis Friulano bears the name of Sbilf, the legendary elf who lives in the undergrowth and hides in cracks, in old houses, in barns, in the depths of the woods or is perfectly camouflaged with the ground.
The finest red is the Bergul, which takes its name from a elf who likes to play pranks and sets ambushes for the peasants in the woods. When you enter this property, a magical aura envelops you. This winery was a surprise, the most beautiful and characteristic one I have ever visited!
