There is a corner of Friuli Venezia Giulia that is very well known and appreciated for good wine: the Collio.
This eastern part of the region, which borders on Slovenia, should also be taken into consideration for walks in the countryside or some mountain biking. We find ourselves in the province of Gorizia, between the plains and the mountains, a few kilometres from the sea. The most northerly point of the Adriatic Sea, at Monfalcone, is less than 20 km from here.
No expensive mountain boots and technical clothes are needed here: you just need to want to walk in nature.
It is through here that the well-known and well-marked Alpe Adria Trailpasses, starting from the heart of the Austrian Alps and leading to Muggia (TS), crossing Slovenia on the way, for a total of about 750 km.
As I walk with my companions, who are visiting Friuli Venezia Giulia for the “Outdoor Tourism Exchange”, between Cormòns and Capriva del Friuli, we are surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see. My first job in Friuli Venezia Giulia, right here, comes back to me: picking grapes!
Twenty-one years have passed, but I still remember, in addition to the tiredness, also the pleasure of working in contact with nature and getting to know new people, the Friulians; I myself am from Puglia. These are people dedicated to work but who can find the time for fun thanks to the many opportunities that their (our...) land can offer outdoor enthusiasts.
Such as here, in the Collio Friulano, where you can walk and cycle all year round but also enjoy, in one of the many local restaurants, the tasty specialties that the regional cuisine offers, surrounded by landscapes that convey serenity and peace.
