Magical woods in autumn in the Julian Pre-Alps

Autumn is the season of magical atmospheres in the mountains. For example, here, in the Julian Pre-Alps Nature Park.

I drive calmly along the road from Tarcento to Resiutta, stopping often to take photos, passing through Alta Val Torre and the Valle di Uccea in the municipality of Resia.

After passing the Pian dei Ciclamini (Cyclamen plateau) and the Tanamea Pass in Alta Val Torre, one kilometre before the border with Slovenia, a small road immersed in the colours of autumn begins on the left, which struggles to steal space from the woods. I arrive in Uccea, a small hamlet in the municipality of Resia.

At one time a large number of people lived there. In 1951, it had more than 400 inhabitants.

Now, it is an almost uninhabited village, surrounded by nature. Perhaps, for this very reason, it is still a fascinating place. It is Thursday morning and along the road I saw only one other car: the forest ranger’s Fiat Panda. So, even if the road is really narrow, there are no major traffic problems. It must also be a spectacular ride along it on a bicycle

After about 14 kilometres from the fork road of Uccea, I stop in Lischiazze.

Another hamlet of Resia, it is renowned for its story of the "campane sepolte" (buried bells) and for the Fontanone Barman waterfall, which is where I want to return today.

A very short 15-minute walk, appeared to be really long today due to the magical autumn atmospheres of the wood and the sound of water, which, capturing my attention at all times, made me lose all sense of space and time. Really beautiful!

A place to get lost in and find yourself again.
