Discovering Santa Margherita del Gruagno

Imagine a villa of the past immersed in the silence of a large park where you can relax in peace.
Can you imagine yourself there? You are in the park of Villa Varda, in the municipality of Brugnera, a few kilometres from Pordenone.
Villa Varda is a Venetian villa of the second half of the fifteenth century, built by the noble Mazzoleni family. Perfectly preserved, it can only be visited on certain occasions while the beautiful park that surrounds it is free and open every day.
It dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century and was laid out by Carlo Marco Morpurgo, a well-to-do family from Trieste, who bought the estate and arranged for the English garden, as was customary at the time.
I discovered Villa Varda by chance and I immediately fell in love with it.
So much so that within a week after the discovery online, I found myself wandering along its stony paths, guided only by the slow flow of the river Livenza and my thoughts that were free to fly.
Villa Varda is an explosion of nature. You will find tall and imposing trees, small plants, thickets and many small animals such as squirrels or woodpeckers.
It is the ideal place to run undisturbed, for a romantic picnic or to play with children in the playground. There is also a small mausoleum, a chapel and a pond.
The real surprise is the orangery, an ancient greenhouse, used as a center for book crossing. The ideal place in which to stop and read, caressed by the light that filters through the high windows.
Finally, at the entrance to the park there is also a cosy literary café.
If you are looking for a place in which to relax, there is no doubt that the park of Villa Varda is just right for you!
