Dirt roads between Fagagna and San Daniele del Friuli

The hills between Fagagna and San Daniele (about 20 km north-west of UD), is full of inviting lanes linking small villages, passing through the municipalities of Colloredo di M.A., Moruzzo, Majano and Rive d'Arcano.

You can admire the greenery, historic buildings, castles and waterways that together create and offer you relaxing landscapes typical of the moraine hills of Friuli. Between dozens of small climbs and as many descents, every time I go for a pedal around the “little lanes near home”, I’m happy to find myself in nature and away from the traffic. The landscape changes every season, and you never get bored.

As far as I know, there is no official cycle trail in this area, except the one that covers a very interesting but wider area, including the city of Udine. I personally always love to change road, and always take different ones. In half a day and in around 40 km, we can discover a fantastic territory. of course it is very important if you do not know the area, to have a good map that also indicates the dirt roads. There are several apps that are very useful in this respect.

From San Daniele del Friuli, following the route of the FVG4 cycle trail, you can reach the lake of Ragogna in just a few minutes; a magnet for fishermen, since although very small, the lake stocks some large fish.

It's easy to see some wild animals, especially if you leave early in the morning. And it’s also difficult to resist the temptation to try out some local products: from the famous Fagagna cheese to the cured ham of San Daniele.

Well yes... I think it every time: living here is a piece of luck! Especially if you are fond of cycling or walking in the open air.
