The route starts from the center of Kobarid where it is possible to visit the namesake Museum, walk along the streets and see the cannons recovered from the Soča (Isonzo) River dating back to the Great War, and visit the two private historical collections on site and the Dairy Museum.
After about 10 minutes' walk you will reach Napoleon’s bridge, which connects the banks of the Soča (Isonzo) River at the narrowest point of the Kobarid gorge. From here you can admire the gorges carved by the river. From there the route first follows an asphalt road, then, after 900 meters, turns left onto a trail that gradually ascends towards the villages beneath Krn (Monte Nero). When you reach the asphalt again, turn left and follow the road to Drežnica, a picturesque mountain village, which can boast, among other things, the pilgrimage church of the Sacred Heart and the private Botognice collection, which gathers ethnological and Great War artifacts. From the nearby village of Koseč, you then climb up to the Italian military chapel on Mount Planica. After passing several ravines, in about half an hour you arrive at the refuge in the Malga Kuhinja area, the final destination of the stage.
