Aquileia, a treasure chest

If you have a free weekend that you want to spend immersed in art and culture and perhaps you are near Udine, then all you have to do is visit Casa Cavazzini and Palazzo Giacomelli.
Casa Cavazzini is the home of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art which, besides hosting temporary exhibitions on the ground floor, has a permanent display of the Astaldi (Italian art from 1930 to 1960) and FRIAM collections (American painting and sculpture of the 1960s and 1970s) on the upper floors.
Palazzo Giacomelli instead houses the Ethnographic Museum of Friuli, whose layout is arranged around the symbolism of fire, aspects of the Sacred, popular medicine, music and entertainment, the wooden sculptures of the Ciceri collection and the folk textile tradition and costume. These spaces are joined by others dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
These two museums are within easy walking distance of the city centre (and are only 450 metresapart) and certainly represent a great opportunity to spend a weekend with the family or friend discovering some new culture.
