Palazzo Strassoldo

In 1830 the French Royalt Court, arrived in Gorizia, which was then considered the "Austrian Nice", settled in the sixteenth-century Palazzo Strassoldo, which draws its name from one of Gorizia's oldest noble families.

After the death of the King, the duke of Angoulême Louis Antoine Count of Marnes accepted the royal title and the Palace became the meeting point for many French guests.

The building was subjected to renovation works during the 17th century and in the last quarter of the 18th century it was enlarged until reaching its current size; it features a remarkable eighteenth-century façade.

The inner spaces were modified as follows: at the centre of the courtyard there is a well, which is still well-preserved; the façade features a small central attic with three windows; on the tympanum there is the family coat of arms and the main floor was accessed through the sixteenth-century four-flight staircase, of a square shape, located on the left side of the hall.

Today the palace, which overlooks Piazza Sant'Antonio, houses the Hotel Entourage.
