Oratory of Purity
The Oratory of Purity is situated on the southern side of Udine Cathedral.
It was built in the place where, in 1680, the Mantica Theatre was built. As the latter was an amusement place far from religiousness, it was not accepted by Patriach Daniele Delfino, who considered it a "profane and luxury place". Due to the proximity of the theatre to the Cathedral, the Patriarch decided to acquire it and transform it into a sacred place between 1757 and 1760.
A church was built in the lower part, whereas an oratory for girls was built in the upper part.
Noteworthy are the interior decorations by Giambattista Tiepolo and his son Giandomenico. The first made the "Immaculate Conception" for the altarpiece of the high altar of the church and, at the centre of the ceiling, the "Assumption", surrounded by a "Glory of Angels". Giandomenico Tiepolo, on the other hand, painted some episodes from the Bible (chiaroscuro on a gold background) on the walls.
The font preserved inside was made by Giovanni Di Biagio from Zuglio (1480) and comes from the near Cathedral.
