Visitor Centre of the Regional Friulian Dolomites Natural Park of Erto and Casso

The Visitor Centre of the Regional Friulian Dolomites Natural Park of Erto and Casso is one of the most important and complete centres of documentation regarding the Vajont disaster.

The first section "Vajont pictures and Memories" holds a collection of photographs which witness the customs and way of life of the people of the area before the tragic event of October 9th in 1963, when an immense landslide came away from the mountain and precipitated into the artificial lake provoking the raging waters which caused the death of 2000 victims.

The second section "A space in recollection" describes the whole event scientifically an in detail through panels, diagrams, scale models and tables from the time of the "great Vajont" hydroelectric basin's planning through to the end of the trial.

In the multimedia room you will have the chance to enjoy a global view on the catastrophe and to watch the graphic reconstruction of the landslide and original films of the period.
