Carnic Museum of Folk Arts "Michele Gortani"

The Carnic Museum of Folk Arts "Michele Gortani" of Tolmezzo, housed in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Campeis, displays a rich collection of ethnographic, artistic and craft material that includes all the aspects of Carnic life and traditions from the 14th to the 19th century.

The exhibition is housed in 30 rooms, which reconstruct the home and working environments: the kitchen, the bedrooms, the small dining room, the brazier, waver and carpenter's workshops.

Moreover, one will have the chance to see specific sections dedicated to traditional crafts, to wrought iron, to weights and measures, to folk costumes, to weaving, to embroideries and laces. One will also admire a rich collection of portraits, a room fully dedicated to folk religiosity, a rich collection of masks and a precious collection of musical instruments.

Due to the high number of materials displayed, the Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions of Tolmezzo is one of Europe's most important ethnographic museums.
