Geological Museum of the Carnic Territory

The Geological Museum of the Carnic Territory of Ampezzo hosts fossils and rocks found on the territory and their related geological evolution in the Carnic Alps over 400 million years.
The exhibition also has several explanatory panels of the evolution phases of the land and life forms that inhabited it.

The most ancient fossils date back to the Palaeozoic age, witnessing the existence of organisms that inhabited the sea beds, when the Carnic territory was covered by the sea.

The visit marks out the geological transformations which took place in the Carnia territory before the Alpine orogenesis, that is before the formation of the Alpine mountain chain.

The Geological Museum of the Carnic Territory is part of the CarniaMusei network.
