Vivaro

Vivaro, situated in the piedmont area in the province of Pordenone, is also known as the municipality of the "Magredi". As far as its etymology is concerned, the name "Vivaro" (Vivarium in the oldest documents) is certainly of Roman origin.

The mill of Vivaro, once property of Counts d'Attimis di Maniago, dates back to 1341 and has always been operated by the water of the irrigation ditch of Vivaro deriving from the Cellina.

In Vivaro you will find the "Lataria", a typical example of stone building, whose stones were squared by stonecutters, and the Antiquarium, which at present is the richest collection of Roman material in the province.

The finds have demonstrated that here farming, breeding, handicraft and trade were carried out much more intensely than one may imagine from the current isolation of these towns, closed among the large stone barriers ("grave") of the Cellina and of the Meduna.
