Tavagnacco

Certainly the origins of Tavagnacco are demonstrated from the Roman epoch. The place name reminds to the Latin proper name "Tabianus" or "Octavianus", - who was probably the owner of the holding -, including the Celtic suffix "aco".

The remains of a necropolis dating back to the 1st century AD, confirm the presence of a Roman colony and the existence of a road from Aquileia to Norico ("via Julia Augusta").

In addition, it is historically proved that the border between the territory of the Carnics and the one of Aquileia used to pass through the municipality of Tavagnacco.

This area began to have some importance in the 13th - 14th centuries, but already in 762 we find the place of "Adeliaco" (the present Adegliacco) mentioned in the deed of donation by the Langobard nobles - Anto, Erfo and Marco - in favour of the monastery of Salt.

There were many families which governed in the various hamlets of the municipality: the Lords of Fontanabona in Adegliacco and St. Fosca, the Counts Florio in Molin Nuovo and Cavalicco, the Counts Berretta in Colugna, the Rizzani family in Feletto, the Miulitti and the Fontanini families in Branco and the Counts Tartagna of Prampero in Tavagnacco.

During the following centuries this place shared the same historical events of the entire Friuli area.

Tavagnacco is known for the cultivation of the asparagus. Since 1935, in this city takes place every year the "Asparagus Festival".
