San Pietro al Natisone

San Pietro al Natisone is deemed to be the capital of the Valleys of Natisone ("Valli del Natisone") for number of inhabitans and surface density.

The most ancient human traces have been discovered in the village of Biarzo, where recent excavations carried out in a cave, have come to light some handmade products dating back to the Upper Palaeolithic and Neolithic ages.

If we want to tell the most important events of the place we have to narrate the succession of its invasions by many different people.

Of particular interest are the paths along the trenches of World War I and in particular to the "Seventh Battle of the Isonzo", at the beginning of the defeat of Kobarid, or routes along the valleys of Natisone to the discovery of testimonies of sacred art.
