San Leonardo

Since the 11th century this area was populated by Slavic populations: they crossed the passes of Polava, Solarie and of Climaz and settled down here working as farmers and shepherds.

Until the 13th century, under the Patriarchate of Aquileia, the two Valleys of Erbezzo and Cosizza were feudal estates of Henricus Dictus Birbiz of Cividale.

Later and until the 18th century both Valleys obtained a democratic and autonomous government, as they were part of the Council of Merso, an elected council for the political and judicial affairs of the area.
