San Dorligo della Valle
San Dorligo della Valle is placed in the extreme eastern part of the province of Trieste where many archaeological sites of prehistorical and historical age proof the existence of man since ancient times.
In the 2nd century b.C. its territory was conquered by the Romans who built some villas and an aqueduct that long supplied water to the city of Trieste.
In this area agriculture developed with good results expecially in viticulture and olive cultivation.
Along the torrent Rosandra it is still possible to see the ruins of some mills, their canals and millstones.
It also flows through the "Parco Naturale della Val Rosandra" , where the species of flora of the south-east Alps live together with the Mediterranean species in an exceptional geological and hydrological habitat.
Still today, Slovenian and Italian linguistic groups live together in this territory.
Bagnoli is an important stage of the "Via Alpina": the path starts from "Hut" Premuda , the lowest mountain hut in Italy (81 meters on sea level) .
