Moraro

Its name comes from the great number of "Morars" (mulberries) that characterised this area, from whose berries Romans obtained syrups.

Several finds of graves, still preserved in the "Natural History Museum" of Vienna, prove the existence of a Longobard settlement in this area, even if a previous village had existed.

Moraro became an agricultural "vicus", first subject to the town of Cormons, and then to the Church of Aquileia.

The town also suffered for the Hungarian incursions of the 10th century and the Turkish raids of the 15th century.

In 1420 Moraro became a Venetian domain, and, in 1497 was annexed to Austria under which remained until 1918.
