Grimacco
Grimacco is situated in the upper valley of the Cosizza, in the heart of the Julian Pre-Alps.
Don't miss a visit to the Ruttar Museum, which preserves a precious collection of objects of all kinds, depicting the usages and customs of the rural society of the Natisone Valleys at the beginning of the twentieth century.
You will also see the curious and preciously interwoven huge masks, which are still used to celebrate the traditional Carnival. In fact, every year on Ash Wednesday, the hamlet of Clodig di Grimacco stages the celebration of the Funeral of Carnival: a procession accompanied by accordions carries a puppet that, after a funny ceremonial, is set on fire.
Another village worth visiting is Topolò, with its rural houses arranged radially, which every year stages the international avant-garde festival.
