Corno di Rosazzo

The name of the town maybe comes from the appearance of the hill (like a horn) on which it stands or from the cornel trees ("cornioli") which were flowers blossoming in this area.

In the Roman times the town was crossed by the road that linked Aquileia and the territories of Pannonia.

The village of Corno was invaded by the barbaric populations.

In 1135 became possession of the Patriarchate and was given to the Rosazzo Abbey ("Abbazia di Rosazzo").

The Castle, started in 1298, was repeatedly sacked and destroyed by the Patriarchal troops and then rebuilt.

Under the domain of the Republic of Venice, the town and its castle underwent the assaults of the "Uscocchi", who set on fire a great part of the territory; later it came under the control of Austria, from which it was managed until the annexation to the Reign of Italy in 1866.
