Claut
In Claut the façades of the typical stone houses, enriched by rustic porticos and balconies, soften the austerity of the structures. The "snow door", a sort of safety entrance built on the first floor to allow access in case the blanket of snow blocked the door on the ground floor, is unmistakable.
The "Museo della Casa Clautana" (Museum of Claut's House), which describes the life of the women from Valcellina, devoted to housework, agricultural work, work in the shed and as pedlars of wooden tools, which were made by men during winter, is worth a visit. In summer the museum organizes temporary exhibitions that illustrate specific themes of life in the valley.
In the municipality there is also a museum of contemporary art and a facility for congresses and conferences.
At the Ice-Skating Stadium, you will find the ice-skating and curling rink. The main attraction, like in all the towns of the valley, is the natural environment. This is an area rich in more or less hard nature trails, which can be followed on foot or by bicycle and which allow to reach locations of remarkable interest.
For those who want to live an unforgettable experience, in Claut it is possible to overnight in the first Italian tree village.
In Pinedo, a hamlet of the municipality, it is possible to buy the papusse, the typical Friulian shoes characterised by the soles obtained from bicycle tires and by the exclusive hand stitch.
