Along the fortified trenches on the summit of Mt. Jôf di Somdogna, visitors can observe a concrete tunnel called "Tomb of the Magician". It is a sheltered passageway which was once used by Italian snipers to preside over roads and paths along the former border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
This is quite a peculiar construction, about 10m long, built parallel to the ridge line and characterized by several slits facing the Carnizza Valley and Saisera Valley. Above the entrance, if you look carefully, you can still read the name (Tomb of the Magician) and some numbers. No traces are left of the original frieze.
Unfortunately, the Tomb of the Magician can only be seen from outside as the entrance is obstructed by debris fallen in recent decades. With a certain amount of caution, you can walk up to the second entrance, from where you can walk further on along a stretch of well-preserved fortified trench.
