Mt. Plauris: an authentic natural botanical garden. A treasure chest of biodiversity that, towering over Mt. Cjampon and Mt. Cuarnan, looks rugged and imposing over the Friulian plain.

Its origins, geographical position, geomorphological features and relationship with man have created for this massif entirely unique environmental conditions that are reflected in the variety and richness of its vegetation and flora.

Walking along the paths that cross it or reach the summit, it is possible to discover a multiplicity of environments that change as the seasons change, giving the visitor the opportunity to always make new discoveries and get involved in new emotions.

It will also not be unlikely to spot animals typical of alpine environments such as chamois, ibexes and, with a little luck, eagles and griffon vultures in the sky.

Due to its length and the presence of some steep and exposed sections at the top, this route is recommended for people with experience and training.

    Author’s recommendation

The best time to walk this route is between late spring and early summer when the alpine blossoms color the prairies with a thousand hues.

At the end of the itinerary a stop at Malga Confin will know how to restore your strength and you can buy excellent dairy products.

It is possible to cover the itinerary in two days, staying overnight in the cozy Casera Cjariguart. Please note that the structure is open and unmanaged; it is maintained by volunteers and therefore the utmost care and cleanliness of the structure is recommended.
