The trail begins just downstream of the artificial lakes in the Davost area in Forni di Sopra, and after a few dozen meters you find yourself walking alongside the Tagliamento River.
The first point of interest concerns an outcrop of chalk-rich rocks that, being soluble and friable, result in an obvious landslide phenomenon and incision in the river bed.
The area has been secured with considerable naturalistic engineering works using stone, wood and willows to consolidate the slopes.
From here the trail resumes narrower but still flat and crosses small streams, meadows and flanks some stavoli (shelters) that recall the former use of these areas.
At the end of the trail, you descend to the left toward the river, which you cross on a small concrete bridge, then resume a slight descent on a paved road. Arriving near a power station of the Fornese Hydroelectric Company, you meet a forest track that you follow until it crosses the Val Rovadia.
You ascend the valley, which is interesting for its geomorphology and important fossiliferous findings, to where it maintains a moderate gradient.
Before the trail abruptly increases in gradient, the high Rio dei Ghirei waterfall appears on the left, refreshing in summer and icy in winter.
It is recommended to watch out for stones that may plummet into the narrow gorge.
The entire trail is frequented by deer, roe deer and other animals it is possible to observe numerous footprints and other signs of presence. It is also not uncommon to spot eagles, and bears are sometimes passing through these areas.
