The route starts just downstream of the artificial ponds in the Davost area of Forni di Sopra and after a few dozen meters you find yourself walking alongside the Tagliamento River.
The first point of interest is a gypsum-rich rock outcrop which, being soluble and crumbly, causes a clear landslide phenomenon and an incision in the riverbed.
The area has been secured with considerable natural engineering works using stone, wood, and willows to stabilize the slopes.
From here the path becomes narrower but still flat, crossing small streams, meadows, and passing by mountain huts that recall the ancient use of these areas.
After the path ends, you descend to the left towards the river, which is crossed on a small concrete bridge, then continue with a slight descent on an asphalt road. Near a hydroelectric plant of the Fornese Company, you meet a forest track which you follow until you reach the Val Rovadia.
You ascend the valley, interesting for its geomorphology and important fossil finds, until the slope remains moderate.
Before the path sharply increases in steepness, the tall Rio dei Ghirei waterfall appears on the left, refreshing in summer and frozen in winter.
Be careful of falling rocks in the narrow gorge.
The entire route is frequented by deer, roe deer and other animals; it is possible to observe numerous tracks and other signs of presence. It is also not uncommon to spot eagles, and in these areas bears sometimes pass through.
