Traditional festival - Majenca 2026

Description

With the arrival of spring, the traditional village festival known as "Majenca" returns.
According to oral tradition, this festival has always been a feature of Dolina and, as in other villages in the Breg area, the tradition of erecting the ‘maj’ – or May tree – on the first day of May has survived.

Thursday 7th May 2026
7.00 pm – Public wine tasting organised by Srenja Dolina at the Pastoral Centre and the Dolina Youth Club, in collaboration with the Parish of St Ulderico – Dolina

Friday 8th May 2026
6.00 pm – Opening of the exhibition by local artists at the “Valentin Vodnik” Slovenian Cultural Society
6.30 pm – Opening of the “Kras - Carso” photography exhibition by photographers Roberto Valenti and Ervin Skalamera at the Srenja Dolina headquarters; followed by a meeting with the Association of Slovenian Beekeepers of the Trieste area in the historic “Torklja” oil mill
7.00 pm – Opening and award ceremony for the 70th municipal wine exhibition, the 29th municipal extra virgin olive oil exhibition and the 14th provincial extra virgin olive oil exhibition in the square
9.00 pm – Concert by the band Nervosius and concert by the local band Slëbwoost

Saturday 9th May 2026
7.00 pm – Guided olive oil tasting in Slovenian, in collaboration with the Association of Olive Growers of Slovenian Istria, at the historic “Torklja” oil mill
8.30 pm onwards – Ceremonial raising of the "maj"; the evening will be enlivened by the Godba Salež band

Sunday 10th May 2026
17:30 – Concert by the Nabrežina Band Society, accompanied by the Breg Band
18:30 – Performance by the folk group
19:30 – Parade of the parterji and parterce in the square
20:00 – Opening of the dance with the Nebojsega Band

Monday 11th May 2026
7.00 pm – Guided olive oil tasting in Italian at the historic “Torklja” oil mill; with Giacomo Cecotti (Olea), head of the Friuli Venezia Giulia tasting panel
7.00 pm – “THE POETRY OF GESTURE” - Performance by youth dance groups: SKD France Prešeren - Boljunec/Bagnoli in collaboration with Baletno društvo Sežana, ŠKUD 15. februar from Komen and SKD Igo Gruden - Nabrežina/Aurisina
8.30 pm - Concert by the band Dirty Fingers in the Majenca kiosk area

Tuesday 12th May 2026
6.00 pm – Concert by the Breg brass band
7.00 pm – Ceremonial felling of the "maj"

Every day, from Friday to Tuesday, stalls serving grilled food and local wine.
