The magic of Christmas: Saint Nicholas and the Krampus

Description

As night falls, the sound of cowbells and flickering torches announces the arrival of the terrifying Krampus, escorting Saint Nicholas through Tarvisio and its villages. Tradition comes to life: good children receive sweets, the naughty ones get a warning, and fear blends with fun in the snowy streets.


PROGRAMME
5 DECEMBER

FUSINE IN VALROMANA
1.00 pm: the procession sets off from Via dei Laghi, stopping at houses along the way. Around 6.00 pm: a huge bonfire at Lago Superiore with tea and mulled wine.

TARVISIO
5.00 pm: Grand Krampus parade along Via Dante, Via Vittorio Veneto and Via Roma, followed by a spectacular show in Piazza Unità with the arrival of St Nicholas, who, accompanied by the Krampus, will hand out sweet bread to all the children. This will be followed by door-to-door visits. During the appearances of St Nicholas and the Krampus, traditional Krampus-shaped sweet breads, courtesy of Tarvisio Town Council, will be handed out.

CAMPOROSSO
At 5.00 pm, the Krampus will emerge from the woods near the church of Sant’Egidio Abate and parade along Via Duchessa d’Aosta to the church of Santa Dorotea, where St Nicholas will appear. The procession will continue along the village’s main street to the square in front of the former vicarage, where the festivities will continue with tea, mulled wine and sweets.

TARVISIO CENTRALE
5.30 pm: Stalls open, serving mulled wine, tea and minestrone. 6.30 pm: The Krampus will emerge from the woods and light a large
bonfire whilst awaiting the arrival of St Nicholas, followed by visits to local families.

RUTTE PICCOLO
8.30 pm: the Krampus emerge from the woods. Bonfire, mulled wine and goulash.


6 DECEMBER
COCCAU
5.30 pm: Holy Mass at the Church of St Nicholas. Afterwards, St Nicholas and the Krampus arrive at the church. Followed by mulled wine, sweets and minestrone.

CAVE DEL PREDIL
At 6.30 pm, the Krampus will emerge from the mine and make their way through the village to meet St Nicholas and kick off the Grand Bonfire. Mulled wine and food will be served in the heated marquee
