Hamlet Double Bill is a show in its original language, loosely based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet, divided into two one-act plays: The Play's The Thing and The Rest Is Silence.
The title refers to the Anglo-Saxon concept of a double bill, i.e. two works presented together, linked by similar themes or atmospheres. Similarly, Hamlet Double Bill offers two shows in one evening, with a common goal: to give voice to the minor characters in Hamlet.
In the first part, The Play's The Thing, the atmosphere is brilliant and daring, rich in theatre within theatre. The protagonists are the actors who, in Shakespeare's text, stage “The Mousetrap”, the stratagem that allows Hamlet to expose his uncle Claudius' guilt. We imagine them just back from their tour of Denmark, ready to tell the contemporary audience — amid clumsiness, surprises and great enthusiasm — the story of Hamlet in just 25 minutes.
The second part, The Rest Is Silence, has a darker and more melancholic tone. We follow the two gravediggers tasked with burying all the victims of the tragedy. As they dig, they encounter the spirits of Claudius, Ophelia, Hamlet and Gertrude, who return to the stage to seek redemption or to tell their side of the story, in the hope of not being forgotten.
