Description
A program spanning different eras, artistic visions, and musical languages, entrusted to the distinctive personality of Giovanni Sollima and the FVG Orchestra. One of the most original cellists and composers on the international stage, Sollima has transformed his instrument into a true laboratory of expression, capable of bridging memory and experimentation, rigor and freedom, theatrical gesture and sonic exploration. In his vision, tradition is never static material, but a living landscape to be interrogated and reinvented.
The evening opens with *Nenia e recitativo* by Eliodoro Sollima, in which the cello takes on the character of a human voice, suspended between song, evocation, and memory.
Next comes Schumann’s Concerto in A minor, Op. 129—a pinnacle of the Romantic cello repertoire. It is a work of extraordinary poetic unity, where virtuosity and introspection merge into a continuous musical narrative, far removed from mere showmanship.
With *Terra con variazioni*, Giovanni Sollima leads the audience into the heart of his own creative universe: the cello becomes an archaic yet contemporary voice—rhythm, song, and sound-matter in perpetual transformation.
The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s *Classical Symphony*, Op. 25, a refined and ironic homage to the 18th century: Haydn revisited through a 20th-century lens, blending formal elegance, rhythmic invention, humor, and a thoroughly modern lightness.
