1976 — 2026
THE URGENCY TO LEAVE, THE DESIRE TO RETURN
To mark the 50th anniversary of the Friuli earthquake, Grado commemorates the extraordinary act of hospitality that the town showed in 1976. After months spent in temporary accommodation and, above all, following the violent tremors in September, thousands of people were forced to leave their villages.
As winter approached, around 6,500 displaced people found shelter and support in Grado. It was a great demonstration of solidarity and collective action, which united the sea and the mountains and left a deep mark on the community’s memory.
