Another great and distinguished pianist, trained in France but with an international career, makes his debut at our Theatre: Pierre-Laurent Aimard. Acclaimed by critics for his significant readings of the piano repertoire but above all for his dedication to 20th-century and contemporary music, Aimard has been applauded by the Salzburg Festival at Carnegie Hall for the "brilliant pianism and extraordinary vision" he imbues with every score he performs, as the "Wall Street Journal" wrote. He has prepared a recital for us that includes works by Bach, Schubert (whose Ländler he recently recorded, which won the Best Classical Album of 2024), and, above all, György Kurtág, a Hungarian composer with whom Aimard worked closely for many years and whom we will celebrate with this concert on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
