The Nativity Scene Museum in Trieste is not merely a venue for displaying works; rather, it is a museum that offers visitors a genuine experience – a journey through the history, culture and traditions of nativity scenes from various regions and countries around the world.
It houses and displays to the public around a thousand nativity scenes dating from this century and the last. Visitors can admire works crafted from a wide variety of materials, including some important local collections, large mechanical nativity scenes, dioramas, depictions of paintings by famous artists and numerous other artistic works.
Also of particular interest is the room dedicated to a series of displays linked to the history and daily life of old Trieste.

Inside the museum, there is an area dedicated to young children, featuring nativity scenes created specifically for and with children (during annual workshops) using characters typical of their favourite games and fairy tales (the Smurfs, Snow White, etc.). The exhibition is accompanied by signage suitable for children and, throughout the museum’s opening hours during the Christmas period, visits will be led by a dedicated guide and feature short demonstrations of the materials, tools and techniques used to create a nativity scene.
