Il Rossetti - Cats

For the first time in 2008 and then in 2014, the most famous, sinuous, poetic cats in the world invaded the Politeama Rossetti: what a thrill! The most famous of musicals returns to Trieste in its original version, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Thomas Stearns Eliot, directed by Trevor Nunn, produced by Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group, and on tour with David Ian Productions. The arrival of "Cats" in Trieste in 2008 was, for fans, an event surpassed only by the visit of its author, Webber himself, to the Politeama, for the Italian debut of another of his masterpieces, "The Phantom of the Opera." And "Cats"—a seven-time Tony Award-winning show, graced with perhaps the most coveted aria among stars (that of "Memory," performed by 150 of the world's most beautiful voices)—will surely inspire uncontainable enthusiasm among the audience, starting with the appearance of those mysterious yellow eyes in the darkness of the stage. Those glittering, feline gazes sweep across the stage, depicting a landfill where the most common objects (but curiously gigantic, assuming a cat's point of view) serve as the backdrop for a sort of competition: the cats gather to tell their stories to the wise old man, Old Deuteronomy. Only one will be rewarded with a new life, a "Jellicle Life." This challenge generates the marvelous choreography and singing numbers in which the cats compete, captivating not only with their meticulously crafted voices, but also with their flawless makeup and costumes, and meticulous mimicry, which is sure to leave you spellbound.
