Written and composed by the legendary Lombardo–Ranzato partnership at the end of 1923, The Land of the Bells is truly a timeless operetta, both for its almost fairy-tale setting—a fictional Dutch island—and for the enduring popularity it continues to enjoy.
Its renewed success is ensured by this production by Arte Scenica, a frequent guest at our Theatre, which has once again adapted the work to its own artistic identity, making it, with its usual grace and respect, even more contemporary. Great care and attention define this staging, characterised by a fluid narrative and live orchestra, with ample space given to ensemble numbers and musical tableaux, offering a fresh and non-conventional reading of the story.
The lavish staging and the delightful comic nature of the plot are matched by the beauty of the score, which combines charming duets—such as Balla la giava and the Fox della luna—with exquisitely crafted lyrical pieces, capable of enchanting audiences today just as they did at the time of their creation.
