Description
Italo Coccolo's solo exhibition opens Saturday at the La Loggia gallery, attended by Councilor for Culture Federico Pirone. Dianora Roccella, having gained extensive experience and knowledge in the artistic field and beyond, will be in conversation with the artist.
"Fiaba Mito e Fitascienza" (Fairy Tale, Myth, and Science Fiction) is the title of the exhibition featuring recent works by Coccolo, an engineer, painter, poet, and writer with an extensive exhibition history in Italy and abroad.
The themes explored in his works focus on a pictorial analysis of the fantastical and surreal world of Fairy Tales, Myths, and Science Fiction, which: "They are the same thing, as the painter states, because all three fields interact with the past and open up a possible vision of the future." Fairy tales, along with Myth, History, Science, and Science Fiction, are part of the artist's cultural background. This results in unique compositions created with mixed media that demonstrate an easily recognizable and distinctive style.
A true Friulian, Coccolo comes from a family with a long tradition of painting; he has always painted. He won first prize at the age of 20, participating in the legendary ex tempore exhibitions of the past. These were the years of youth protests and demonstrations against the Vietnam War.
But even then, Coccolo expressed himself with a pictorial language distinct from that of the Friulian tradition. Over the years, this language has evolved, adopting softer, more curvilinear forms with frequent use of hyperbole, which the artist considers "the profound and infinite gaze of the line."
The exhibition can be visited from March 14th to April 11th, Thursday through Saturday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Sunday from 11:30 am to 1 pm.
