Description
Trieste will host, for the first time in Italy, the outcomes of the major European project
Music, Memory and Europe
organised by the Forum Voix Etouffées, the leading European organisation dedicated to rediscovering the vast repertoire of composers who fell victim to totalitarian regimes, primarily the Nazi dictatorship.
Co-funded by the EU and based in Strasbourg, the Forum aims to raise public awareness of the alarming rise in anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination across the continent and to commemorate the atrocities committed by those regimes during the 20th century, with the crime of the Holocaust at its centre.
The “Carlo and Vera Wagner” Museum of the Jewish Community of Trieste will host one of the project’s outcomes, the small but significant exhibition
SILENCED VOICES: WOMEN’S JOURNEYS
Seven panels will recount, and provide context for, the stories of five female musicians persecuted by the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century: Sofia Gubaidulina, Alma Rosé, Elsa Barraine, Grażyna Bacewicz and Henriëtte Bosmans.
The exhibition can be viewed during museum opening hours
