Description
Casanova in viaggio is one of the most important exhibitions organized in Italy for the third centenary of the birth of Giacomo Casanova (1725 - 2025), with original materials and documents never seen before, and is also accompanied by a rich catalog in Italian and English published by Libreria Antiquaria Drogheria 28 and by I.R.C.I.
The exhibition intends to tell the life of the Venetian adventurer, who later became an icon in the world of art, cinema and advertising, with two main focuses. The first is that of the young Casanova, a sea traveler along the two shores of the Adriatic to the coasts of the Levant; the second is that of Casanova transformed into a myth, especially starting from the twentieth century, as a subject first of theater, literature and cinema, then of marketing and successful brands that still represent his imagination and Italian genius in the world today, as well as the image of the seducer. The exhibition will therefore feature prints and objects, such as some 18th-century lagoon glass, but also documents by and about Giacomo Casanova, which will be collaged with 18th-century documents from Istria and its most illustrious men of the Venetian era, such as Gian Rinaldo Carli, with his original autographs in the “American Letters”. And again, in a “pop” dimension, you will admire posters and movie posters, from Fellini’s Casanova to that of Alain Delon, as well as a corner of comics about the Venetian seducer and a section of vintage advertisements, which embody his figure. A prominent place will then be given to one of the symbols par excellence of Casanova’s hometown, namely the Carnival, celebrated by the rare pochoire of the masks designed by Umberto Brunelleschi. The Trieste exhibition will close with a current affairs corner where the timeless dimension of Casanova's image is intended to be highlighted through companies, businesses and activities that still today use references to the figure of the famous Venetian in their product lines or in their own brand: from wine to perfumes, from shoes to coffee, from the Casanova mask to the lapel snood to balsamic vinegars and creams.
The exhibition will be inaugurated at the I.R.C.I. exhibition venue in via Torino, 8 in Trieste on Friday 30th of May 2025 at 5.30pm and will remain visible to the public from Monday to Sunday until Tuesday 30th September 2025, observing the following times: 10.30am – 12.30pm and 4:.0pm – 7.00pm
