Still immersed in hilly, verdant countryside, this not particularly demanding section of the trail winds its way through the heart of eastern Friuli Venezia Giulia, following for the most part of the stage, the same paths of Alpe Adria Trail which is easy to identify. Moving southwards and penetrating deeper into these areas, the route reveals panoramic views and charming landscapes where the traces of the First World War once again become one with the territory in which they are embedded. The fusion of tradition, history and culture, culminates when the route reaches Castelmonte, best known for its important Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a place of pilgrimage and one of the most famous religious sites in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
