During the First World War, the territory of Bohinj, and in particular the village of Ukanc, the start point of this unique stage, was at the centre of an intense traffic of equipment and supplies to the front lines located in the mountains above, thanks above all to the paths and cableways that were built on-site by Russian prisoners deported to the area and who were employed for this very purpose. The route of this itinerary allows visitors to engage with this remarkable environment, perhaps less well known than the front lines, while at the same time enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds it.
