We are now at the edge of the Karst ridge. The Gulf of Trieste/Trst, which is the final stage of the Walk of Peace, stretches out and can be seen at the edge of the many points of interest. These ones are linked to the Austro-Hungarian army that defended the city of Trieste, the main port on the Adriatic Sea of the Empire. Despite many attempts, the Royal Italian Army was never able to take possession of these territories before the end of the conflict. Remains and cemeteries are scattered along this last part of the itinerary, immersed in the green and rugged beauty of the Karst ridge. The infinite turquoise expanse of the sea gently appears, only at the end of the route, when you descend to reach Miramare Castle, embraced by its protected marine reserve.
