It starts together with the homonymous Italian stages of what could be a multi-day loop within the Walk of Peace. This route leads the hiker to leave behind the urban environment of Gorizia/Gorica and Nova Gorica, symbolic cities of a renewed peace and communion between peoples, and to head south along the karst territory which, due to its geological formation, was particularly suitable for building fortifications. In these areas, therefore, traces of the Great War can be seen to pin down a different terrain, but no less fascinating than alpine or Collio ones. Here there are also some important museums and monuments, such as the Cerje Peace Monument, a panoramic point on the edge of the karst escarpment.

    Author’s recommendation

Near Bukovica, there is an Austro-Hungarian military cemetery.

If you want to undertake the hike in summer, it is recommended not to proceed during the hottest hours due to the high temperatures and long stretches without shade

    Roadbook

Starting from Nova Gorica, moving along the cycle path leading to the tunnel under the Kostanjevica monastery and continuing to Šempeter pri Gorici where it is possible to admire a private collection dedicated to the Great War. Proceeding towards Laze, you take the path leading to the summit of Sveti Ot hill, on top of which you can admire a monument dedicated to the events that occurred in this area in the 20th century. The twelve Italian cemeteries present in this area have been dismantled and the remains moved to the Ossuary of Oslavia. From Sveti Ot hill, the route continues towards Bukovica and the Vipava (Vipacco) river, where, in Renče, you can visit the health museum "Renče 1914‒1918". Finally, you reach the Open-Air Museum of Vinišče and continue towards the Cerje Peace Monument, near Lokvica, seat of the "Walk of Peace" Visitors Center as well as the final destination of the stage.
