Tribil di sotto/Dolenij Tarbij (below) - Planino Meadows
The beautiful flat basin south of Tribil di Sotto, known as Planino, represents one of the last areas where it is possible to observe an extensive mown meadow landscape. The panoramic view of the nearby Mount San Giovanni (702 meters above sea level), easily reachable by a forest track, allows one to appreciate the extent of the underlying Erbezzo torrent valley. Forested islands with beech, birch, linden, and ash trees are scattered among the rock-free meadows, bordered by surrounding forests. Here and there are areas where haymaking was once practiced.
The floral composition of the meadows, dominated by mesobromete grasses, indicates some soil acidification, and there is a notable presence of wild orchids. In these places, some rural buildings characteristic of the Slovenian ethnic identity are preserved: rural architectures called kozolec (ozolci), constructions with masonry pillars and wooden racks used for drying hay and other agricultural products, also used for storing tools employed in fieldwork.
Accessibility: The basin is accessible via a dirt road that descends from Tribil di Sotto and connects with the main road of Tribil, ascending all the way through the Planino.
